About Us

The Colorado Transportation Symposium is put on by a planning committee that consists of representatives from eight different Colorado transportation organizations. Any proceeds from the event are divided among the organizations to fund their individual sponsorship programs. An overview of each participating organization is below:

   ASCE Colorado Section

The American Society of Civil Engineers represents more than 150,000 members of the civil engineering profession in 177 countries. Founded in 1852, ASCE is the nation’s oldest engineering society.  The Denver Branch of the Colorado Section was formed in 2017 and operates under the leadership of the Colorado Section. Since the Branch’s inauguration, its members have been actively involved in the advancement of the science and profession of civil engineering in the Denver Metro Area.

   APA Colorado

The Colorado Chapter of the American Planning Association (APA Colorado) is a non-profit organization of professionals and citizen planners providing vision and leadership for the future development of Colorado communities. We are the state affiliate of the American Planning Association and have over 1,500 APA members Statewide. In Colorado, as well as nationally, we have a membership that is diverse in expertise and focus. APA Colorado members work both in the public and private sector; for Federal, state, and local government; for firms both large and small; in long-range planning and development review; in master planning, as well as site planning; in transportation planning, land use planning, environmental planning, design, and in many other capacities.

    Colorado Wyoming ITE

The Colorado-Wyoming Section of the Institute of Transportation
Engineers (ITE) is composed of about 500 members, students, and friends who work /study in the fields of transportation and traffic engineering. The Section’s strategic goals are:

  • Bring more people together – bring transportation professionals together to network, to learn, and to build community.
  • Share more knowledge and experience – provide access to key transportation-related information and continuing education.
  • Increase participation of students and younger members – provide opportunities for student members and younger members to participate in the Section function and development.

    COMTO Colorado

COMTO (Conference of Minority Transportation Officials) is a national not-for-profit organization founded in 1971, on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. COMTO was created to provide a forum for senior minority professionals in the transportation industry. Over the past 30 years, their mandate has evolved to include not only public transportation industry executives, but also professionals at every level of industry encompassing a variety of fields and disciplines. Now, as was then, members are encouraged to share information, opportunities and personal expertise. With 40 chapters throughout the United States, its mission is as relevant today as we strive to provide full access to employment, career and contract opportunities for minorities within the transportation industry. A small group of professionals committed to this mission, founded the Colorado Chapter of COMTO in May 2004.

    ITS Rocky Mountain Chapter

Comprised of Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Utah and Wyoming, the ITS Rocky Mountain Chapter covers approximately 511,260 square miles and is the largest chapter in geographical terms.

This region is known for its beauty and space – with all of this space comes many challenges with transportation infrastructure and safety, as well as, funding issues.  Which is why organizations like ITS Rocky Mountain Chapter are so important in connecting these wide spaces!  We have to be creative, innovative, loud, and work together to keep our transportation systems responsive and safe!

Move Colorado

For more than 25 years Move Colorado has been at the forefront of the transportation funding policy debate – seeking to inform and educate policy leaders, interested parties, and fellow Coloradans regarding how best to increase and allocate funding resources to support our vast and diverse transportation system. We have provided valuable input to legislative efforts to fund, expand, and diversify Colorado’s transportation system, including the most recent state funding transportation bill, which passed in 2021.

Move Colorado’s membership consists of committed transportation advocates from our 46 member organizations. We are focused on an inclusive and robust conversation and debate about how to ensure all Coloradans have access to a safe multi-modal system that meets their transportation access needs for today and the future.

    USDOT OSDBU

The United States Department of Transportation (USDOT), Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization’s (OSDBU) mission is to ensure Small Business policies and goals of the Secretary of Transportation are implemented in a fair, efficient and effective manner.     WTS Colorado

WTS is an international organization dedicated to the professional advancement of women in transportation. Founded in 1977, WTS boasts roughly 8,500 members internationally – both women and men. WTS exists to raise the profile of the transportation profession and to help women find opportunity and recognition within the industry.

The WTS Colorado chapter has hundreds of members committed to excellence within the transportation sector.  The chapter is dedicated to inspiring and empowering professionals with the latest information and innovations. WTS Colorado provides access to the highest levels of the transportation industry.  Their programs couple member interaction with relevant, thought-provoking speakers. Comprehensive educational forums and discussions foster professional development and provide valuable exposure to timely transportation issues.
